The American professional baseball player Bruce Maxwell is currently playing as baseball catcher for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball. In September 2017, Maxwell became the first MLB player to kneel during the National Anthem.

On October 28, 2017, Maxwell reportedly pointed a fireman at a female food delivery driver. He was charged with aggravated assault with deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.

Early Life and Education

Bruce Maxwell was born on a U.S. military installation in Wiesbaden, Germany, on December 20, 1990. He is the son of Bruce Jr. Maxwell and belongs to American nationality and ethnicity wise, Maxwell is an African-American.

Maxwell attended Sparkman High School in Alabama, where he played baseball for the first time. After accomplishing his high school, he joined Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama. At the time, he also played as a baseball catcher from the college baseball team at Division III.

Professional Career

In the second round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, Oakland Athletics selected Bruce Maxwell. In 2012, he played for the Vermont Lake Monsters in the Class A-Short New York-Pennsylvania League. He was charged with 18 passed balls in 38 games.

In 2013, Maxwell played for both the Class A-Advanced California League and the Beloit Snappers in the Class A-Midwest League. He was charged with 17 passed balls in the games.

Maxwell played in the Class AA Texas League for Midland Rockhounds, in the year 2014. He spent the whole season at Midland and batted .243/.321/.308, in 2015. During the national anthem, Maxwell was the only player to take a knee protesting racial injustice by kneeling, on September 23, 2017.
