Synopsis

David Khari Webber, famous as Dave Chappelle, is a standup comedian, actor, and co-creator of Chappelle’s Show, a popular sketch comedy show that ran on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2006. Besides, he also featured in several films like Robin Hood: Men In Tights and Half Baked in the mid-1990s.

Early Life and Education

Born on August 24, 1973, in Washington, D.C., United States, comedian and actor, Dave Chappelle’s parents were both professors: His father, William, a teacher at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio while his mother, Yvonne, served as a professor at Howard University.

At the age of six, unfortunately, Chappelle’s parents separated and he subsequently started splitting time between his parents’ homes in Washington and Ohio. He made up his mind to begin his career as a comedian after inspiring by the sitcom, The Cosby Show and its star, comedian, Bill Cosby, when he was studying at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. There he majored in theatre arts.

His mother had to accompany him to clubs as a legal guardian due to his underage. Regarding his nationality and ethnicity, Chappelle is a Black American.

Professional Career

Following his graduation, Dave Chappelle moved to NYC and started his comedy career as a stand-up artist at the Apollo Theatre. However, he didn’t get much success at that time. He then didn’t give up and eventually made a name for himself in the comedy circuit, after portraying the character of Ahchoo in  a 1993 American musical adventure comedy film ‘Robin Hood: Men in Tights.’

Chappelle then played the supporting role in the movie ‘Getting In’ in 1994, before appearing in the American sitcom, ‘Home Improvement’ alongside Jim Breuer in 1995. The duo gained huge popularity in an entertainment industry, and they also were given lead character together in the sitcom, ‘Buddies.’

Chappelle then featured in the hit film, ‘The Nutty Professor’ alongside Eddie Murphy in 1996. After a year, he made his remarkable appearance on ‘Con Air,’ before portraying the small role the film ‘Blue Streak,’ in 1999.

The following year, Chappelle gave his slot for the first time on HBO in an episode ‘Dave Chappelle: Killin’ Them Softly.’ In the year 2003, he started his own show entitled ‘Chappelle’s Show’ on Comedy Central cable network. After that, his show became a smash hit as well as he received two Academy Award nominations for the wildly popular and controversial show.

However, the production of the show brought to an end due to his sudden disappearance to South Africa. In the year 2006, he also traveled several cities in the US to permute the documentary film, ‘Dave Chappelle’s Block Party.’ He also featured on ‘Inside the Actors Studio’ from 2008 to 2013.

Major Works

In 2003, Chappelle started the sketch-comedy show, ‘Chappelle’s Show’ for three years. He announced his contract with Viacom worth $55 million after his show, the Chappelle’s show, aired on comedy central, became a huge hit and grabbed the attention of the viewers.

The production of the show was terminated after he disappeared on a trip to South Africa through the company argued him to continue the show for two more years.

Personal Life

Dave Chappelle is a married man who has been married to his girlfriend, Elaine Chappelle and they have three amazing children together. Dave and his wife, Elaine got married in the year 2001, after a year of dating in a lavish wedding ceremony.

According to newyorker.com, Chappelle once disclosed that his wife is Asian and their kids turned out to be Puerto Rican. The couple is currently residing on a 65-acre of land in Ohio along with their two sons, Sulayman and Ibrahim, and a daughter Sonal.

The couple is happily married for 16 years, and since their marriage, there is no revelation about their divorce or any extramarital affairs rumors.
