Synopsis

Yo-Landi Visser goes by her rapper name, Yo-Landi VI$$ER. She is well known as the front-woman of the South African Zef-Rave-Rapper band, ‘Die Antwoord.’ As a member of the group, she has launched four studio albums, two EPs, and one mixtape.

Early Life and Education

Born on 1st December 1984, in Port Alfred, a small town on the East coast of South Africa, Yo-Landi Visser was born as Anri du Toit. As a child, she was adopted by an Afrikaans family and has never met her birth parents.

Visser’s mother was a homemaker, and her father was a priest. She grew up in a conservative Afrikaans society and became very rebellious as a child as she often involved in fights. From the age of 5, she attended St. Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls.

After that, Visser was sent to a boarding school in Pretoria at the age of 16. Following her schooling, she moved to Cape and met Ninja who helped her set her career goals. Regarding her nationality, Visser is a South African and ethnicity wise, Visser is of Mixed ethnical background.

Professional Career

As a child, Yo-Landi Visser was interested in music and hardly understood rap, but, never even thought of a career in music. She then went to attend school in Pretoria, where she met a guy named Markus, who was a musician.

After recording her voice to mix the sound with his tracks, Visser became interested in creating music. She later moved to Cape Town and met Watkin Tudor Jones, a.k.a. Ninja. After listening to her voice, he became interested in using her voice and invited her to join his rap group.

From there, they recorded numerous songs and released several albums together. They started the group ‘Die Antwoord’ in the year 2008 along with producer DJ Hi-Tek (Justin de Nobrega). They launched their first album ‘$O$’ in the year 2009.

After a couple of years, they founded their label Zef Recordz and released their second and third studio albums, Ten$Ion (2012) and Donker Mag (2014). In the year 2016, they launched their fourth album, Mount Ninji, and da Nice Time Kid.

Besides, Visser also appeared in Neill Blomkamp’s science-fiction film ‘Chappie.’

Personal Life

The singer, songwriter, and an actress Yo-Landi Visser is not married at the moment and doesn’t have a husband. However, she is in a relationship with her boyfriend and music partner, Watkin Tudor Jones for a long time. Her boyfriend Watkin is better known by his stage name as Ninja.

The couple also has a daughter named Sixteen Jones. Sixteen made her debut on the music video of ‘I Fink U Freeky,’ at the age of seven and is also a singer and songwriter. Visser also adopted a street-kid named Tokkie.

Visser and her long-time partner Ninja first met in Cape Town, and they also formed the South African hip-hop group ‘Die Antwoord,’ along with producer DJ Hi-Tek. They never turned their love affair as a husband and wife though they are dating for a long time.
