Synopsis

Deepika Padukone, born on 5 January 1968, is one of the most high profile Actress in the Indian cinema.

Placing her first foot into the world of Bollywood cinema at a tender age, Deepika Padukone has now established herself as one of the leading actresses of the Bollywood industry with movies like ‘Om Shanti Om,’ ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani,’ ‘Cocktail’ and many more.

She has continued awing the audience with her glistening charm and aura.

Early life and Career

Deepika Padukone was born on five January 1968 in Copenhagen, Denmark to father Prakash, a former badminton player, and mother Ujala, a travel agent. She did her schooling from Sophia high school in Bangalore and completed her pre-university education at Mount Carmel College.

Although Padukone initially focused on badminton as her career, she later dropped the idea and shifted herself towards the fashion industry when she was still in her tenth grade-realizing badminton was more of her family tradition than her choice.

Making her runway debut at the Lakme Fashion Week for designer Suneet Varma in 2005, she won her first ‘Model of the year’ award and kingfisher fashion award. At the age of 21, Padukone featured in her first music video for Himesh Reshammiya’s song ‘Naam Hai Tera’ and gained a wide recognition resulting in several film offers.

Film Career

A year later in 2006, Padukone made her debut with commercially successful Aishwarya, a Kannada film directed by Indrajit Lankesh. Following this in 2007, she appeared in a Bollywood movie ‘Om Santi Om’ alongside Shah Rukh Khan.

This movie proving to be both critically and commercially successful gained her a wide appreciation and applauses and made her place steady in the commercial cinema. She also won her first Filmfare award for best female debut and gained a nomination for best actress Filmfare award.

She continued her success with several other movies like Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Chandani Chowk To China (2009) and Love Aaj Kal (2009). ‘Love Aaj Kal’ turned to be the third highest grosser of the year and gained her the second nomination for the best actress award.

In 2010 and 2011, Padukone ran low through her career. Four of five of her releases that year performed poorly. The only commercially successful ‘Housefull,’ however, grossed 17 million American dollars, though her acting was considered below average. In 2012, starring opposite Saif Ali Khan-one of the leading Bollywood actor- in Cocktail, she made her way out of a struggling phase.

The film proved to be a major commercial hit and gained her appreciation for her acting skills. Padukone followed her success with several other movies like Race2, Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani, Ramleela, Tamasha and Piku-all of these commercially and critically acclaimed.

Present

As of October 2016, Padukone is about to make her acting debut in Hollywood film named ‘xxx: The Return Of Xander Cage,’ opposite Vin Diesel which has already created a buzz in the media. And her upcoming Bollywood projects include ‘Raabta’ and ‘Padmavati.’

Beside her acting ability, she has also been always praised for her look and is considered as the sex symbol and the style icon in India. She is also cited as the most attractive Bollywood actress by the media.
