The British-Indian journalist and television presenter, Naga Munchetty is well known for her work on BBC One’s BBC World News, BBC Breakfast, and Victoria Derbyshire. She previously worked as a presenter for the BBC Two’s weekday financial affairs program Working Lunch.

Naga Munchetty was born Sudha Nagalakshmi Munchetty-Chandra on February 25, 1975, in Streatham, London, England. She was born to a Mauritian father and an Indian mother. She has a mixed ethnical background and belongs to British nationality.

Munchetty learned piano and trumpet from the age of 10 to 18. At the time, she played in school orchestras and jazz bands in her teens. She attended Leeds University in Yorkshire, England and studied English literature and language.

Following her graduation, Munchetty went back to London and completed a postgraduate degree in Newspaper journalist.

Professional Career

Naga Munchetty started her journalism career working with the City Pages of the London Evening Standard. She later began working for Reuters Financial Television. Soon after that, she joined CNBC Europe as a senior producer.

Munchetty then started working with BBC Two’s weekday financial affairs programme, Working Lunch. She worked as a presenter for the show from October 2008 to July 2010. She also served as a host of Radio 4’s Money Box.

Munchetty has been presenting early morning bulletins on the BBC News Channel and BBC World News since August 2010. Apart from working as a regular TV presenter on BBC One’s Breakfast, she also serves as a director of Naga Munchetty Limited.

Munchetty replaced Sian Williams as presenter of Sunday Morning Live on BBC One, in June 2016. The following year, she was replaced by Sean Fletcher and Emma Barnett.

“I moved to this house six years ago with my husband James Haggar, a TV director, and if I’m not away working I’ll be curled up on this sofa most nights watching TV and stroking my two Siamese cats, Kinky and Ronnie.”

In the same interview Munchetty also revealed about her first date with her husband, stating,

“My first date with James was at a pool hall. We love snooker and pool and this is one of the cues for our snooker table – it’s three-quarter-sized with grey baize, which is a bit more stylish than green.”

It is reported that the couple first met at a public outing and finally began the affair in late 2005. They decided to marry each other after two years of their dating. The pair doesn’t share any children together, although they are living together so many years now. And we don’t see a single divorce rumor or controversy between them.

Achievements and Skills

Munchetty won Celebrity Mastermind, which was telecast on 2 January 2013. She frequently plays jazz trumpet and classical piano. Besides, she also makes cocktails, which she learned while she was working in bars and pubs during her college days.

Munchetty is also a keen golfer who won the Hertfordshire de Paula Cup at Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club, playing under her married name, Haggar, in October 2012.
