The former CNN entertainment reporter Sibila Vargas is an American news anchor for NBC 4 New York’s 5 P.M.; 6 P.M. and 11 P.M. weekday newscasts.

Previously, she also worked as a news anchor for the morning and 11 a.m. editions of ‘CBS 2 News’ for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles.

Early Life and Education

The American news anchor, Sibila Vargas was born in Queens, New York, US, on September 1, 1968. Vargas belongs to American nationality and ethnicity wise, Vargas is of mixed ethnical background as her parents are of the Dominican descent.

When Vargas was 5, her parents divorced and she spent her early years in Queens along with her mother. By the age of 12, she was sent to live with her father in the Dominican Republic and attended a church-affiliated boarding school.

At the age of 15, Vargas relocated to New York and graduated from high school. Following her schooling, she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Journalism and Minor in Psychology from the Long Island University.

Sibila Vargas started her broadcasting career with the CW station as a writer and producer. She then served as an entertainment reporter at KTLA-TV in Los Angeles, before working as an anchor for the weekday 4:30 – 7 A.M. and 11 A.M. newscasts at KCBS in Los Angeles.

At the time, she covered breaking news stories that included Japan’s devastating 9.0 earthquake and tsunami. During her tenure, she also won a Golden Mike award for her exceptional work.

Vargas co-anchored the weekday morning newscast at KRIV in Huston Texas, where she was also recognized by the Texas Association Press for her work behind the desk and as a member of the morning news team.
